Runner-up: Formula Kart Stars national "Find the next Lewis Hamilton" competition

After qualifying as one of the 20 finalists, all the drivers had their driving skills, awareness and control tested.

Robert excelled, beating off competition which included the British Open Cadet Champion, to make it to the final 5, who all got the chance to be interviewed by a panel which included Anthony Hamilton (Lewis' dad), ex-F1 driver Mark Blundell and karting legend Terry Fullerton.

Kimbolton - Round 1

Robert missed Saturday practice to attend the FKS competition at the NEC, but made up for lost time by overtaking 10 drivers on his first lap of the brief Sunday practice.

At the end of the first heat, Robert was struck so hard by another driver while travelling at about 40-50mph that his head hit his rear wheel, which caused his head and body to be thrown like a rag doll.

The paramedics responded immediately and were brilliant, ably supported by the marshals whose only priority was Robert's welfare.

Because of the extent and location of the pain, Robert was immobilised and transferred to A&E, where he was given the all-clear.

The safety equipment (particularly the neck brace) had saved Robert from serious injury, although both his race suit and helmet were destroyed.

Thanks to everyone involved in taking such care!

East Anglia Trophy at Kimbolton

An eventful weekend!

On a wet Saturday, Robert finished in 3rd place in each race until the final. A racing incident on the last lap, with Robert in 2nd place, left him with only 3 tyres and spun off the track onto the grass. Somehow Robert managed to recover, get back onto the track and even tried to challenge for 3rd place despite his lack of grip!

The results meant Robert earned 4th place overall, but was awarded the East Anglian Junior Driver Trophy for 2015, reflecting his performance both on an off track, becoming the youngest ever winner of the award.

The results also meant that Robert moved up to 3rd place in the HKRC Championship.

Whilton Mill

Inspired by his success at Kimbolton, Robert was brimming with confidence at Whilton Mill.

Instead of having a relaxing evening after testing on Saturday, Robert travelled to Leicester to join his Corby swimming club teammates at the Final of the Diddy League, where Robert competed in 7 races to help his club to their best ever result of 4th from 24 teams.

On a wet Sunday morning, Robert was 2nd fastest in practice before finishing 3rd, 4th and 5th in his heats, earning him an overall 3rd place in the final. Although Robert managed to get up to 3rd place on the last lap, he was pushed wide in the last corners and had to settle for 5th.

The excellent results mean he has moved up to 4th place in the championship!

2nd quickest in practice.

1st heat: Took the lead from 5th place, only to be knocked off the track by another driver.

2nd heat: Took the lead from 4th place, but had to settle for 3rd after two members of another team worked together to overtake and then block until the finish.

3rd heat: Improved another 4 places after starting near the back.

Final: Starting last, due to the poor first heat, Robert was up to 6th by the end of the first lap, ultimately finishing 4th, less than 0.1 seconds off another podium finish.

On a damp Sunday morning, Robert signalled his intentions by posting the 2nd fastest lap in timed practice.

In the first heat, Robert decided to move for the front on lap 2 and extended his lead with every lap. Finishing an easy first place, 7 of his 9 laps were quicker than any other competitor.

Second and fourth places in the remaining heats earned Robert pole position for the final.

Pushed wide early on, Robert recovered to challenge for 3rd place and won the trophy for fastest lap of the day.
